Im thinking about going to SVA I had them review my portfolio at a national portfolio day event and they accepted me on the spot so I HIGHLY doubt you would have troubles getting in!

That's awesome! Yeah I'm actually applying to SVA too, I visited their school and LOVED it!

As far as portfolio goes, I am still working on mine. I've visited almost all the colleges on that list (except MICA) and it's pretty standard that all of them want to see at least 50% observational work (figure studies, still lifes, sketches, etc.) and the rest to be your own personal work. Almost all of my stuff so far is studies and still lifes, so when I went to portfolio reviews they told me to include a few pieces of my own style to round out my portfolio. So I'm working on those pieces right now.

I guess each school differs a little, but as long as you keep those elements (observational and original) the same you should have a strong portfolio for any school. Just check their web sites to make sure the number of pieces they want to see and how they want you to send them.
